Background of the Issue:

Sadly, some of the unwanted things happened over the last few days between the neighbouring states Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over Cauvery river water management issue. All over the Tamil Nadu states people are protesting for their rights. Some of the protesters even demanded to ban IPL even before the IPL season starts. During the match with KKR as well, few of the protesters thrown shoes at the CSK’s dugout and the ground. Later protesters who has thrown shoes at CSK team members, were forced to evict the stadium and later they were taken into the custody.

Post match, CSK team management met the police commissioner of Tamil Nadu regarding the security issues for the remaining matches. Police officials expressed their inability to deploy more police personals at the ground during forthcoming matches. They recommended the management to shift the remaining matches to an alternative place. CSK team management has informed the same to BCCI and IPL board.

Few of the politicians also supported the protesters and they warned not to conduct matches in Chennai. Rajinikanth, famous actor turned politicians asked protesters to protest in a peaceful manner and requested CSK team to wear black badges during the match to support the people of Tamilnadu.

What could be the Alternate Venue?

Chennai SuperKings has played only one match in their home ground till now in this IPL 2019 season. They have played another away match with Mumbai Indians at Wankhade in the IPL season opening game and won the thriller with absolute power striking from Dwayne Bravo.

But due to this Cauvery issue, they have to lose their home advantage for the remaining 7 matches to be played at home ground in league stage. Even in 2016 season also, few of the home matches were played in Ranchi due to different issues. In one of the season, protests were happened against Srilankan players playing in Chennai.

As the team has already played few of the previous home matches in Ranchi, this could be the choice. Also, Ranchi is the home ground for CSK team captain MS Dhoni. The other alternative venues that team management is considering are Vishakapatnam, Pune, Tiruvananthapuram or Rajkot. They are yet to decide on the venue.

We will update once the venue is officially confirmed. Keep visiting for more updates.

Update – 12 April:

The remaining six CSK matches in IPL 2018 season were moved to Pune location. Maharastra Cricket Association will host in total 8 matches in this season, pre-scheduled Qualifier and eliminator along with these 6 CSK matches.

Spectators who bought tickets for these 6 matches were requested to collect refund at MA Chidhambaram stadium.
